In the elections this weekend in Chile, voter turnout was low. Many people voted against the government and the political heirs of the dictatorship. Revolutionary workers had an impressive showing.

Biden boasts that his new cabinet “looks like America.” However, whether the cabinet “looks like” the working class has nothing to do with their interests and politics. Make no mistake: these politicians will always put the capitalists above the workers.

The world watched yesterday as a horde of extreme-right Trump supporters stormed the joint congressional session to certify Joe Biden’s electoral win. These events portend more instability for the U.S. imperialist project, both on the national and international stages.

The history of the New Anticapitalist Party in France, which coincides with a decade-long period of intense class struggle in the country, is instructive for revolutionaries in the United States seeking a path forward to building an independent working-class party that will fight for socialism. So too are the nature of the current crisis of the NPA and the crisis of leadership that Leon Trotsky wrote about in 1938.

Now that the movement has put the very existence of the police on the table, socialists everywhere must begin to think about the forms of self organization needed to further develop and strengthen the struggle in order to eventually build a broader confrontation with capital and the state.
